Welcome to the Barack Obama Front Page

Hillary Clinton
(October 26, 1947; 8:02 am; Chicago, IL) was born with an exact conjunction of Mars and Pluto in Leo, giving her a warrior's fighting spirit, especially when she's on a
noble mission. This Mars-Pluto combo is right on Obama's Leo Sun, which helps explain their  heated interactions during the campaign. However, designating her as Secretary of State is astrologically synergistic, since her Mars-Pluto is in the ninth house of foreign affairs.

Ms. Clinton is bound to be an international star under this new role. As Pluto enters Capricorn, it will trine her Virgo Midheaven, bringing her into the transformational situations that are restructuring our global village. Her progressed Sun also trines her Midheaven, so that between Pluto and her progressed Sun, she is becoming empowered in ways that she imagined she would as president.

Obama's A-Team

NewsScope; January 19, 2009. As Obama assumes office, he's managed to unify the political left and right under what he calls his Team of Rivals: a cabinet of the strongest personalities and brightest minds available. Choosing competence over ideology has alienated party stalwarts, while some centrists are calling his cabinet the Dream Team and say they're well positioned to take on the nation's mounting crises.

Astrologically, the confluence of outer planets in Aquarius – Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune – emphasizes teamwork and the overcoming of personal differences for the sake of the larger whole. Obama's cabinet
choices were completed as he went through his Jupiter Return, which underscores the opportunities available when working as a team. His semi-esoteric evocation of Abraham Lincoln arrives as transiting Neptune (mysticism) is conjunct Lincoln's Aquarius Sun.

With Obama's progressed Moon now conjunct his Aquarius Ascendant, he has become the networking president that he imagined. Although he's promised openness and transparency in his government, it's noteworthy that transiting Mars enters his 12th house of secrecy the day after his inauguration, and will remain there through the end of February. This indicates that the real action will be taking place behind the scenes, away from media scrutiny.
Transiting Mercury is also in his 12th house, and in retrograde motion. It's astrologically unlikely that any long-term, constructive changes can be made as long as Mercury and Mars are afflicting his 12th house. These conditions are better suited for political wrangling and backroom deals. No doubt Obama wants to hit the ground running, but it likely won't be until late February that anything practical can be accomplished.

The Oath of Office

NewsScope; January 26, 2009. Because the oath of office during the inauguration was flubbed, Obama fended off critics by taking a second oath on January 21 at 7:35 pm. Which chart should astrologers use to forecast how his term will go? According to the Constitution's 20th amendment, his term begins precisely at noon, and then he may execute the powers of the office after the oath.
Following the Constitution, the proper horoscope should be set for noon on January 20. Some astrologers have noted that this chart has the Moon void of course in Scorpio, and therefore the president won't finish his term. Astrologers with a similar mind-set noted that when Obama announced his candidacy (on February 10, 2007 at 10:13 am), the Moon was void of course in Scorpio, and therefore nothing would come of his campaign.
Let's be clear: a political event chart is different from a horary chart. Using 17th century horary rules to judge the horoscope for a modern political event makes no sense. In political astrology, the Sun represents the leadership and the Moon symbolizes the people and their security needs. The Moon at 29º Scorpio describes an economically desperate population with hopes for big change as the Moon enters optimistic Sagittarius.

The Aquarius Sun is conjunct a retrograde Mercury, perhaps indicating that Obama will have some false starts before he gets things right. And since the Sun is applying to Jupiter, it looks like he will eventually get things right. The Sun is also trine Pallas in Gemini, giving him a keen sense of political balance and diplomacy. However, Venus, the ruler of the chart, is entering the Saturn-Uranus opposition, showing plenty of hardship to come.
NewsScope; March 2, 2009. President Obama's televised speech before Congress last Tuesday was roundly hailed for capturing the mood of the nation and setting a broad agenda for fixing the economic crisis. Then on Thursday he released the new budget which will set a progressive course for America, including a start toward universal health care and addressing climate change. On Friday, Obama detailed a plan for getting the troops out of Iraq.

At the center of all this multi-tasking is Obama's Moon in Gemini. Previously, the U.S. has had four presidents with Gemini Moons, and none of them stand out for their excellence. "Do nothing" Calvin Coolidge was the most recent, and in 1841 William Henry Harrison gave such a long-winded inauguration speech on a bitterly cold day that he died of pneumonia a month later.

Obama's Moon squares Pluto, giving it emotional depth. And it also squares Chiron in Pisces, which adds empathy. The trine to Jupiter and Saturn gives Obama broad vision and a keen sense of community responsibility. Last Tuesday, the New Moon in Pisces was precisely opposite his Pluto, the ruler of his Midheaven and point of honor. The activation of his Pluto was reflected in several pundits commenting that he "possessed the moment."
A New Era of Responsibility
Pluto is in a prolonged quincunx to Obama's natal Moon, since it turns retrograde at 3 degrees Capricorn, the same degree as his natal Moon
Also last week transiting Jupiter opposed Obama's Sun, offering him the opportunity to make his huge budget proposals and the sweeping progressive agenda. Transiting Uranus is heading into an opposition with Obama's Mars, insuring that he will
face stiff opposition to his plans. Many corporate lobbyists are clamoring to fight this budget. The most dynamic configuration takes place when the Sun and Uranus are conjunct on March 12 while opposing Obama's Mars.
